Welcome to My 1st Grade Classroom

Hello! My name is Kayla McDaniels. I am so excited to be working in first grade this year! I am a North Carolina native. I moved to Charlotte about five years ago and I have loved every second of it. Outside of school, I enjoy time with my family and puppies. I also enjoy the outdoors, hiking, and going to the movies. I am looking forward to a wonderful year in first grade!

College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:

I graduated from UNC Charlotte. I majored in Elementary Education with a focus in Social Studies. Go Niners!!! I am also attending UNC Charlotte Graduate School to get my Masters degree in Elementary Education as well. I have experience working with Kindergarten, First grade and grades K-6 as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Teacher.

Educational Philosophy/Vision:

I believe that each student contributes something unique and meaningful to the classroom family and that every student can succeed. I also believe that no two students learn material the same way. I value individualized instruction so each student can get what they need specifically to support and aide them in their learning process. It is my goal to make the learning process engaging and fun for all students while maintaining a positive classroom environment, where every student feels valued and welcomed. Another goal of mine is to instill life-long learners in every student. Learning is most valuable in the early stages of life so it is extremely important to me to help students find a love for learning!

In addition, I have an open door policy. I truly believe that working collaboratively with parents is essential to help each child reach their full potential. I believe in the saying "Whatever it takes" and I am committed to doing everything I can to make every child's experience in my classroom meaningful.

Things Parents/Guardians can do to help:

Parents/guardians are such an important aspect of a student's learning! I always like to encourage parents to read with their students each night and try to review sight words every day! Thank you for all you do!
