Educational Philosophy/Vision:
I believe the School Library Media Center supports the curriculum, school plan, and educational goals of Forest Park Elementary School. The library media program provides an environment in which everyone in the school is empowered to become lifelong learners and effective users of information, ideas, and technology. The library media program provides authentic, creative learning opportunities and a broad range of support services. The library media specialist collaborates with teachers to design and implement instructional units that help students learn information literacy skills and the research process within the context of the curriculum areas.

Mission Statement:
he mission of the Forest Park Elementary Library Media Program is to provide resources and activities that will assist students and staff in becoming effective users of information, develop a pattern of life-long learning, and foster a love of reading.

Checkout DESTINY, the media center catalog at Forest Park Elementary.  The link is in the upper-left corner under Useful Links.

Parents who are looking for lexile levels or Reading Counts information will also find a link for SCHOLASTIC BOOK WIZARD in the Useful Links tab.

Students will come to the media center every other week for book selection and media instruction. All students will be participating in the North Carolina Children's Book Award contest sponsored by the Youth Services Section of the NC School Library Media Association. For the winter and spring quarter, each student will hear ten nominees read aloud in media class. At the end of March, all students will vote on their favorite book. Votes will be submitted and tabulated in Raleigh, NC and winners in the Picture Book and Junior Book categories will be announced in late April or early May. This is an awesome experience for students as they are exposed to wonderful literature and can participate in the voting process as a whole school.
