College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:

I grew up in Salisbury, NC and moved to Charlotte to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and completed a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics. I completed my student teaching at Winecoff Elementary in Concord and finished out the year teaching kindergarten at Jackson Park. After which, I moved to Forest Park and taught kindergarten for 7 years. This is my first year teaching 2nd grade and I am so excited for this new experience. It is so excited to see kids that I had in kindergarten. :) I want to make this year one that is positive, fun, and challenging for your child.

Educational Philosophy/Vision:
I strive to create a positive learning experience for all students. I hope to reach each student in a way that will impact the rest of their lives. I want my classroom to be a safe place for students to share their ideas, problems, and dreams.

Things parents/guardians can do to help:

School Day: The school day for students begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 2:55 p.m. The tardy bell will ring at 8:05. If you are picking up   your child early please go to the office and the secretary will call to the room for your child.  Please do not come to the room.  We cannot release your child unless you have signed them out in the office and we have been notified by the office. You may not check out your child after 2:30 p.m.

Breakfast: Breakfast is available each morning before school in the cafeteria.  Breakfast is free for all students. They will need to arrive by 8:00 in order to have time to eat breakfast. Please inform your child if you want him/her to eat or not eat breakfast.

Lunchtime: You are always welcome to visit our classroom.  Please try to notify me prior to your visit.  Our lunchtime is 11:04a.m.  If you would like to eat lunch, please send us a note so we can alert the cafeteria.  You can meet us outside the office, in front of the cafeteria.

Lunch Money: Lunch is free for all students! :)

Lunch Snacks: The prices range from $.50 to $1.00.  Please send snack money in an envelope marked snack money with your child's name, lunch number, amount, and teacher's name. I encourage my students to eat their lunch before eating snacks.

Home Lunch: If a student brings a lunch from home they are not allowed to have soft drinks in the cafeteria.  Milk or juice can be purchased or you can send a non-carbonated drink.  Parents and students are not permitted to bring fast food lunches into the cafeteria (McDonalds, Burger King, etc.).

Bus Riders: Students who come to school on the bus will be given a bus tag for the first week or two until they are familiar with the bus route and procedures. Please return the bus tag with your child everyday.  Please make sure to notify us of any transportation changes.

Dismissal Tags: Please keep all tags connected to your child’s book bag on their book bag.  This helps all staff direct your child at the end of the day.

Leaving Early: Your child cannot go home a different way unless we receive a note or the office is called and notified (they will notify me).

Contact Info: Please make sure that we have a working telephone number on file at all times.  This is extremely important in case of an emergency.  If you are giving someone else’s number, please make sure they know where to reach you in an emergency situation.

Celebrations: If you are interested in signing up to be our classroom parent or for school parties and special occasions this year, please notify me.  Our parties are Winter Break and the End of the Year.  We will have small snacks for our other holidays.  Because of our new school policy we are now allowed to have cupcake/snacks to celebrate birthdays. These must be store bought treats and arrangements need to be made with the teacher prior to bringing them up. You may then drop them off in the office.

Communication: Student work will be sent home throughout the week in the green folder.  Please review your child’s work, empty their folder, and send the folder back each day. Behavior will be recorded on a T chart in your child's agenda. Please initial next to it at that you have seen and discussed their behavior with them. This information is also available on Class Dojo.

Uniform Policy: Please make sure your child keeps his shirt tucked in.  Pant/short/skirt colors – Navy, Khaki, and Black.  Shirts - no logos or designs.  Shirts can be any color. (Shirts must have collars or be a turtleneck).  Coats, sweaters, or sweatshirts have to be removed once they come in the room unless they get cold.

Conferences: I am always available to conference with you concerning your child’s progress.  Please call me in advance to set up an appointment.  We will have formal conferences at the end of the first 9 weeks to discuss your child’s report card and assessments.  Please make every effort to attend these conferences.

I hope this information was helpful and I look forward to a wonderful year in second grade!
